We sell a lot of beretta a400 compacts for this purpose. After we tune them most will shoot the 3/4 ounce low recoil ammo. We use it a lot for lessons and beginners

buy a 28 gauge. They recoil like a 410 and kill like a 20ga.

I would not recommend the tri star. It has issues ejecting shells.
Those stocks are too long for most kids anyway. Heck from what I've seen 'compact' or 'youth' puts the length of pull in the 12.5" range. I'm 5'7"and my LOP is 12 3/4. Of course I'm shorter than average, but my point is to really fit a kid even the short stocks need to be cut even down further.
I cut an old Remington 20ga stock down as much as I could and did a grind to fit low profile pad and I think I got it down to 11.5". Daughter's almost ready to start shooting it too.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

If God didn't want us to eat animals he wouldn't have made them out of meat.
Flop, what adjustment does that Beretta have that you mentioned to "tune" it?
And banded, my apologies for assuming you hadn't checked eye dominance. I read your post wrong.

Colt's been shooting a 12-guage M2 that he got about 2 weeks after his 10th birthday.
He's a skinny kid and has never had a problem with it.

No he is not using a M2 20 LH. One is definitely in his future but he will have to help earn/help pay for some of it. He started with a mossberg 510 mini in 410 and is currently shooting a mossberg 500 LH 20 ga.
He wasn’t ready for the 20 ga until this year at 9 yo. The 510 mini 410 with TSS #9 killed his first ducks, wood duck and gadwall. It’s a fixed modified barrel. Works fine to 25ish yards.
He will outgrow it in a few years. Length of pull is 10” ish and it comes with spacers.
