IF you run a business and/or deal with customer and potential customers, do you respond to text after hours?

I guess that depends on your business. My weed guy and escort service respond to all kind of late night texts.

Yes. I’m a one man show, and my niche is responsiveness and customer service. I don’t sell anything that my clients can’t get somewhere else. If I don’t add value, they can go another route. I’d rather handle a problem immediately than let it fester.

My favorite saying of my dad’s (pertaining to construction workers not showing up) “If you’re not here when I need you, where do you think you’ll be when I no longer need you?”

Did you not respond to Caison?

Got a message from customer at 9:59 last night. I didn’t respond as it was just a few pictures I asked him to send.

I answer the phone 24/7/365 unless I’m on scheduled vacation with someone covering for me.

Most of the time, I loathe them through... especially bourbon availability questions. It's my nature, and my business, plus being the face. During the days of yore, back when large events were the norm they used to be really bad. One of my life goals is to make enough money as to where I can throw away this cell phone for good.

I rarely respond to email though. If it's sales.. they can track me down for favors.

I am just the opposite. Cell service was so sketchy in the mountains for so long I got used to email as the primary. I usually get all my texts at once days later when I remember to charge my phone. I need to get better at that...

ha, I used to be worse with it. I'd have friends call me about an email they sent a week before, asking why I haven't responded.. I typically would reply back "now, was that too hard".

I love working on Saturday mornings.. and I'm on the computer trying to figure out what glorified mud puddle/pond near my house is large enough for a gaggle of necks to corn up and shoot this morning.

I will answer business text etc from close friends inside a very tight circle. The rest wait until I get back to the office. Otherwise all I would be doing is working all the time for free since a majority aren’t my clients anyway.

They all start the same way, “I hate to bother you when you’re off but I’m going to do it anyway...”

    Generally speaking, yes.

If it’s something I know the answer to right away then I tell them. Other times the response is, “I’ll have to look into it in the morning” or something of that nature but I try to respond in some fashion.

When a customer goes from sales to construction (where I take over) we have a preconstruction meeting that lasts anywhere from 1-2hrs. One thing that has worked well for me is to go ahead and set expectations regarding my availability after hours. I tell them, “ I’ll answer the phone from 6am to 530pm” if I don’t answer right away I’ll call you back as soon as I can. When I finish for the day I usually take a break from the phone for an hour or so and I’ll check it again later in the evening and get back with you accordingly” I make sure to tell them I’m off on weekends but if they need me feel free to call/text but it may be several hours before I respond depending on what I’m doing or where I’m at.

On Fridays I have my office assistant send out an email update to every customer and I will generally call them and touch base as well.

These methods have really worked very well for me as far as cutting down on after hours calls and texts compared to the amount I used to get. Now I probably only get after hours calls /texts 2 nights a week and I can usually go all weekend without any.

Yesterday I called every customer I currently have just to remind them that I’ll be off until Dec 2nd and to wish them a Hapoy Thanksgiving. I put in a lot of extra time this past week to make sure everything goes smoothly while I’m gone. I’ll be carrying the phone all week though as it’s much easier to just deal with something as it comes up vs. trusting someone else to handle it for me or letting it sit until I get back

You know I do. I got accused of being non responsive this morning by a person that hasn’t signed a job and I’ve been over there 5 times and revised his quote 6. I feel like I’ve done all I can. I told him peace out.

Yeah, I get that junk a lot. I told one I didn’t need the work bad enough to continue, sign or hire the other guy. Last I heard they’re waiting on prices to come down, not lumber, everything. Or the ones that want to negotiate, you don’t need overhead expenses, you’re a one man show. OK, cost plus it is and you’re paying for everything and every minute I spend on the project, it’ll be 15-20% more than my original quote when it’s all said and done, maybe more depending on those after hour and overtime rates.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

All depends if I like the client or not and how many Tito's I'm on.... And that list is small. Typically not on the weekends or holidays.
