Still no guess on how many feet of dike an operator could retop in a 40 hr week?

It all depends on the site.

Private contractors already do a huge amount. There definitely isn’t the manpower.

Make Samworth a pilot program. Get the funding they need but have some sort of non government oversight. Maybe have a person from DU and CWS granted access to monitor the progress on a weekly basis and publish a report.
Have this continue after the repair process into the maintenance and management phases.
Weekly updates(monthly might be more appropriate) year round will keep the pressure on DNR and staff to perform.

I'm 61. Samworth wasn't shit without Mr. Jayroes and Middleton Pond. Now Mr. J is gone and Middleton Pond area looks like a ball park at night. The allure of the real estate dollar has effed the ducks. The whole east coast looks like Myrtle Beach at night. On a bright note, Kinloch got about 2000 birds last night but they will probably be gone by the 10th.

So in one year (52 weeks), one could potentially retop 14.8 miles. Of course you have to account for duck season (or not), moving equipment (& repairs), and then wet weather slowing things down, so how many active weeks that leaves you I don't know?

    Maybe 60-70% of that (8.8 - 10.4 miles)?

WE need a plan that elevates waterfowl management, places the responsibility on one person at DNR, and funds it appropriately.

Management plans and goals need to be re-established.

I am going to try and will need your help.

    Duck Tape,

Do you have any allies in the SC House or even in the Senate to help push this effort? I suspect WE will need some in both. Knowing who OUR friends at the beginning would be helpful.

Like any good hunt club, there should only be one chief. In SC we are beholden to the entire General Assembly. I like your idea DT.

I agree with that. I’ve asked this question before I think but what happened to the Waterfowl Advisory Committee? I feel as if since that has gone away shit has really gone down hill.

Does DNR have enough funding to accomplish this mission?

Hire or appoint Strick9. He has the passion, experience, persistence and fortitude to get things done. He's a thorn in the side of DNR and I'm sure they'd love to give him a shot..

There are probably a dozen legislators out of 170 who could be strong supporters and another dozen who will follow.

The "dirty dozen" will meet soon. I have started some back room talks with DNR.

Strick9 would go over as well as Trump at the Oregon democrat meeting.

Finding someone who plays well with government AND has a proven record managing large properties for waterfowl? I can't think of anyone from South Carolina who fits that bill.

I would start the search in Missouri...

I know of two SC folks who would be great for that job. If they worked in tandem it would be all the more successful. However as you already know , neither would be accepted by the current regime at SCDNR.

Quackhead , glad to see you coming back around.

Duck Tape, Thank you, these areas are highly important to not only waterfowl trends in SC but also our waterfowling culture.

That Oregon culture statement has many truths hidden inside it, at least to me, that atmosphere and culture has to be changed in some form or fashion for success to be gained.

Where is the $1.8 for interdicting Hatians from driving up on our beaches?
