    Default Water temps and oysters

Thinking about ordering a few bushels for Thanksgiving. As warm as it has been, what effect will it have on quality?

I’ve gotten 600 singles from a customer in McClellenville over the past 45 days and they’ve been great. He said to hold off on clusters for a few weeks, 2 weeks ago.

I got some folly river clusters from Mt P seafood 2 weeks ago. They were outstanding, and those guys had cleaned them as well as any I’ve ever had. Hoping to get some more soon

Soon, when the million tons of Fukishima waste water the Japs dumped into Pacific gets around here, that damn bacteria is screwed anyway. #Winning

I've been eating local farmed oysters since May on a weekly basis. LowCo brought us some clusters this week and they were fine.

Big thing to keep an eye on is rainfall aside from temp. Looks like we should be pretty clear this week and I would think oysters picked anytime weds or after would be on point.

If you can't face down shigella and other fecal coliform bacteria like a man, stick to fried shrimp and white fish fillets at capt D's.

I had a micro professor that was absolutely terrified of shigella.

When I was in undergrad a bunch of us wildlife bio majors made a run to the gulf and grabbed two bushels of oysters for a gathering one weekend. There were 8 of us. All 8 ate out of the first bushel. The light weights and Cinderellas headed out and there were 4 of us who stayed to float the keg and keep eating on the second bushel.

All 4 of us heavyweights wound up either in the hospital or wishing we were within 24 hours. All 4 of us were diagnosed with shigellosis. I'd rather have the rice a rona, the flu and 8 kidney stones at once than go through that again. Took me over 20 years before I felt safe enough to eat another ocean booger.
