    Default GFCI/Refrigerator question

I have an outdoor fridge that a couple of times a year would throw it’s gfci outlet. Generally around power outages etc. However yesterday it tripped three times in twelve hours so I moved the fridge to another outlet via extinguisher cord. My fear is this old fridge is circling the drain but I am reaching out for ideas as to why it might be tripping? Is there a test I can do? Other than hot beer, I do have some things in the freezer I would not want to lose. School me. Thanks, MG

I learned a long time ago not to put a fridge on a gfi circuit.

Probably just a bad GFCI receptacle. I have one at my outside kitchen that I have to replace about once a year. They tend to fail more often the more times they are tripped. If I had a fridge on it that I kept anything important in, I would consider replacing it with a regular receptacle if it is not in a wet location.

If you decide to change the receptacle out keep in mind the GFCI has a line and load side to it.
Line being your power coming in and load is power going out

Would probably not pass code, but you could replace receptacle with standard and install gfci in your breaker box for that circuit.
Honey...I'll do it after the season is over.

Gfci breaker would give you the same issues, put a standard outlet in and swap it back out if you put the place up for sale.

Thanks, I’m headed out of town for the weekend. I think I will change it out to a standard receptacle went I return. Great advice, MG

It's been humid AF. Garages get wet, you live on a lake.

Like it was said, cut out the GFCI oulet and put a normal outlet in there.

I replaced garage-fridge outlet with a regular receptacle. I also placed a small led lamp on top of the fridge. If the lamp is off, the fridge has also lost power.

    Freaking carpenters lol

Change to a dedicate use outlet with one receptacle to keep it per code.

The ice/water dispenser has a night light and I have a WYZE camera affixed to the doors. I also have a wireless thermometer in the freezers of both of my refrigerators and they record high and low temps along with having alarms set at limits. None of this does me any good if I am out of town though. I read about the thermometer thing about a year ago. It is great for knowing if food has spoiled. MG
