For a safe and quick recovery for my 10yo son Easton aka Easy E as he goes under the knife this morning and for his mom for having to handle this alone as Prisma will only allow one parent in the hospital at a time.
Long story short, back in November of 2019, my wife was diagnosed with Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma, I very rare and deadly form for thyroid cancer (less than 2% of all thyroid cancer cases are MTC). We found out about it when she was playing with the kids and our 3yo accidentally kicked her in the neck, out of reflex lora touched her neck and felt a small bump, being proactive literally was the first start to saving her life. Amazing surgeons at MUSC we’re able to attend and treat her where early 2020, they confirmed it was caught at stage 2 and she was cancer free with clear margins on the thyroid and all 58 lymphnodes they removed from her neck.
Since MTC is so rare, they dug into her genetics and diagnosed her with a condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2 (MEN2), a genetic mutation of her DNA sequence. MEN2 has a 98% probability to turn into Medullary Thyroid carcinoma, they say the 2% of the data that do not get it are the ones that pass away before it develops and it’s relativity undetected until it reaches stage 3 and spreads to pretty much all major organs. At stage 3/4 this type of cancer does not respond to chemo or radiation and the 10y life expediency drops into the teens.
Since it’s in her DNA, there was a 50/50 chance it could be passed down to our children. Easton was the only one of our three that tested positive for MEN2.
Since he has the condition, the medical path is to remove the thyroid to avoid the chance of thyroid cancer from occurring.
I know he is in great hands and we are so blessed to have found out about this before it turned into something very difficult to tackle.
If you got a second, please say I quick prayer that the good lord watches over Easton, his Dr’s, staff and Lora as she’s by his side
Also, I promised him a john boat after this is all done soooo anybody got a lead on a good 15/16ft with a 25-40 4stroke and trolling motor up front?
***Update***
Surgery went well, start to finish around 4 hours. Minor hiccup with his parathyroid that caused his calcium levels to drop post surgery lower than they are comfortable with so he spent last night and will tonight in the PICU. Hoping to get moved to the floor tomorrow with a clear path to discharge.
His pain is manageable but there are only so many youtube fishing channels he can watch before going stir crazy.
Easton, Lora and I really appreciate all the prayers.
