    Default What size trailer winch

The lock on my winch is rusted out and I see nothing on my current winch to get an accurate size. What lb rating would you get for a 15' High Tide with 40hp motor ? I have seen winches rated from 900lb, 1200lb, 1400lb+. I think the motor is roughly 200lbs. The Mi-Tide version of my boat is roughly 600-700lbs. Based on that, the 900lb would "work" but is that really enough? Is 1200 enough, or still go a little higher ?

I got one in the trading post. It came off a trailer I had my 15 high tide on.

I’m glad I posted this just after some friends from Greenville drove down today! Ha. I will keep it in mind if I don’t find anything local. Thanks!

Unless you plan to lift it straight off the ground, you don't need one rated for the weight of the boat and engine. You only need one strong enough to pull it up on the trailer. If you get one rated a lot higher than you really need, you'll just need to do a lot more cranking.
