I saw a bunch offshore recently as did Bog. 130 miles is wayyy off...
That’s pretty neat

Saw a couple yesterday a few miles offshore of stono inlet with a flock of scoters.
Yep. We bumped some much farther offshore than I expected to see teal.
We assumed they were headed toward the Caribbean given the direction they headed.

This is cool to see!
I have seen a few coming through along the coast in the past few weeks but not offshore.

I have a GWT band I recovered in MX. Banded in Alaska. It was not an Aleutian. Pretty long migration.

No wonder they are so small. The burn up all their calories on flying.

For curiosities sake pull the dates you saw the teal and see if it corresponded with any big weather event in the Gulf or Caribbean. I'd like to know myself. Those little suckers can cover some land and water quick too! I have buddies that work 150 miles out in the Gulf that have seen all kinds of birds land on their oil rigs (some dying) obviously resting up for a bit to continue on.

Anything’s possible.
But I only saw a few groups.
Thousands out there would make me more inclined to think something unusual was going on.

Heading offshore a number of years ago in November, kicked back in the fighting chair, staring up into the sky and killing time, 35 Miles out, I see a bird straight up and almost at the limit of vision. Lit up pink by the rising sun, it was a swan. There was another and another, all 10 yards apart, in a straight line beak to tail, as far as I could see in both directions, headed South.

Never know what you’ll see on the big blue.
