I’ve seen someone with 4 negative tests leave the hospital (Indiana) diagnosed as covid 19 +. I don’t think it was to secure higher reimbursement...simply think everyone was so hyper focused on Covid that the ID doc missed the forest for the trees. I’m sure that wasn’t an isolated case either. Overweight diabetics on dialysis and missing digits and parts of their extremities don’t die of diabetes...they die of infection of some sort...or massive MI...always have, always will. The sick diabetic discussed above should not be counted as a covid death despite the fact the covid infection and his immune response was an insult that his system could not compensate for. If we tried to determine the specific insult that kills patients like the one described...we’d have lockdowns and panic over a host of common cold viruses and otherwise harmless bacterial infections.
