Default How about a “field report” thread...

With the upstate now in full blown deer season, how’s it going for you guys? Sunday evening was a washout for me. Saw a young buck chasing a doe yesterday and pretty slow tonight. I think the heat hasn’t helped the last couple of days. 2 questions: 1) Anybody know of anything big being shot up here yet. I’ll quantify big as impressive score or big bodied, mature deer. 2) assuming you have the wind you need, what’s your go to set up the next week or two?

Slow. Seeing some young deer with their nose on the ground but that’s normal this time of year.

Corn fields on our farm were cut last week. Sat Monday evening. Saw 20+ deer total the last hour. Buddy across the farm shot a decent 8. They were on their feet after all the rain Sunday

all i know is they are swole up, chasing, and stinking.
but only on a certain moon phase and weather pattern.
look up rh's calendar to confirm.

    surely I jest....
the truth is, deer are doing deer stuff because its fall.
deer will get killed because its deer season.
rednecks will shoot a buck over a big ass pile of corn but then go on to tell a story about the dark tarsals and odd smell and how they killed it "chasing does."

Only gotten to sit once. 10 year old shot his second deer on Sunday evening - a fat doe. Only saw two bucks- a young 8 and a yearling 3 point. They didn't have any interest in the does- other than the dead one laying on the edge of the plot. I agree- I think the warm weather slowed things down a bit.

Slow, lots of food falling out of trees, not interested in corn.

My deer are hammering the white oaks and my oldest boy killed 160lb 6 point on Sunday 10-4 on an evening hunt.

The deer on camera have left the corn alone, and are hitting the plots hard, but all the plot action has been in the middle of the night.

Only saw 1 deer yesterday and sat both morning and eve. I have seen over a dozen this AM and they are still coming. Its amazing what a 20 degree drop in temp will do

Both with ML.The larger 192# 16" was trailing a doe and fawn thru a clearcut. The smaller 160# 18.5" came into a plot just after rain stopped.

White oak acorns are plentiful in the area I hunt. I can see why they have left the corn. Problem is they don’t have to go too far to find them. Hoping the older bucks should start cruising. I got a pic of a nice, mature 8 right at shooting light this morning. Didn’t do me any good from my office.
