The cranes finally started showing up the last couple of days. We got a few in with the snow a couple of weeks ago, but I think the wildfire smoke and warming temps cut that push short. Went out this am to where there was nada last Saturday and knocked down a two man limit in a hurry. We forgot to take pics, as we were in a hurry to get to my buds taxidermy shop to clean the birds and try to do a quick, rough mount on some to add to my meager decoy spread. Had three decoys this morning...they arrived shortly after season last year...and most were locked up and setting their feet twenty yards in front of us. We will have 6 decoys tomorrow...maybe the first ever decoys that were flying 24 hours earlier. I got a new tripod and will be filming the action tomorrow to make up for not having any crane-porn for y'all tonight...of course, that will likely be the kiss of death for our hunt. If you've never hunted these birds, you are missing out. My buddy folded one that swung around fairly high, and turned to me giggling and said "you really CAN feel it when it they hit the ground!" They decoy great; they are incredibly vocal; they are Yuuuuuge; they are just as tasty as a great beef fliet mignon...they are perfect! Stay tuned for my best attempt to get a good hunt on film.
