Fortunately I’ve never had an experience with a grizzly but have had plenty with Black Bears while living in Colorado, hunting in Appalachia and backpacking/camping/fly fishing the Smokies. I always have at least one of the following on me: S&W 9mm, bear spray and/or a lighter and a couple packs of black cats ready to deploy

The old saying about identifying bear scat from my buddies our West applies - " Black bear shit has twigs, berries, and birdseed in it". Grizzly shit is composed of " Bells, Whistles, shreds of Patagonia fleece and scraps of fisherman"
