The Social Dilemma on Netflix
Watched this last night. It comes on and I see it is a Sundance film, and immediately want to change it. I gave it a chance. I really liked it, and didn't see the slant. In fact, I thought it was excellent. Crazy stuff going on and this documentary had the people that created it.

I saw something earlier telling me I needed to be mad at Netflix but I don't know why. The only TV I've watched in the past month has been MOTV.....

I will check it out later for sure. I already probably think that they are doing what they are going to tell me they designed it to do, but hearing it from the designers will be interesting.

Man I can't even bring myself to make a wise crack. I can't remember the last time I missed a Clemson game, if I wasn't there, I was watching it on TV and my day was planned around it. I honestly didn't even know they were playing Saturday until my oldest called me asking why ESPN wasn't showing up on the Dish guide........

Crazy times. I was sort of surprised when all of those kids were listed in that story about them beating up the one kid, and I have never heard of any of them. I can name the QB Hillsinki and the Hammond Kid. 2 players. One if you notice I can't remember the Hammond kids name...

JAB, you nailed it. It IS the folks that designed it. touched on how public opinion can be swayed by ads and feeds. The predictability gets better everyday because it has more data to pull from.

I watched the Social Dilemma last night. I thought it was really well done and informative. I've long held the belief that our current technology and social media is a serious issue for society at large.

For those who didn't watch it, my takeaway was that these techs were all created to manipulate you to spend your money with the company that pays them the most per impression which gets them directly inside your head.
They had no idea how fast the tech was going to "learn" to do it's job. It worked far better than anyone could have imagined. You can actually call a Google, speak to someone, and ask "I need all the info on 700,000 people who like the watch big titted midget girl porn, hunt ducks, and send their children to private schools". You will be quoted a price per person and you will get access to everything you want to know about the first 700,000 people who match. They will know where you hunt, if you like your midgets to scream, your children's names, grades, and everything that they have ever looked at or posted on a phone or computer. Or said in the hearing of a monitoring Alexa or iPhone. Then the same for everyone in your contact list. And all of your children's friends and family. It is an all encompassing hydra.
Suddenly the 700,000 impressions they paid .03 each for becomes 50 million and grows exponentially.
It was the biggest windfall for marketing in history and it wasn't close. It took about a minute for people to realize that "Hey we can use this to change the way people think" and "Hey we can short Zambia's currency and use this to destabilize the country guaranteeing massive profit" and every other manner of things shitbags could think up.
Then the power found out about it. The kind of power that sees everyone else on the planet as having been put there to serve their interests. The kind of power that throughout history, had to force everyone else to bend to their will at sword or gun point. They realized that with this tech they could simply purchase the means to bend them. It is working. Like a charm...
