I’m a fan of Remington shurshot heavy dove. No idea if they’re a “good” shell but that’s what me and pops used to always get so it’s nostalgia for me if anything

Any field load works if you pick your shots but a full choke in the right hands will crush birds. Most of us just have to buy a lot of shells and cheap doesn't seem to hurt.
And ditto for cheap shells on ducks.

I’m shooting monarchs this year in 12 and 20, picked up 8 cases the other week. If I can roll a timbering squirrel out the top of a pine tree with them I reckon they’ll work for doves

This is the best shell for the money I have found. Academy stopped carrying them last year and I'm really glad they are back in stock!

Does hull color make a difference? Should I go with one of the green and black colored ones? I’m worried the pike of empties surrounding me will flare birds of they’re blue or orange or red. Have y’all found this to be your experience?

I took some plastic and cut out a bottomlands pattern with an exacto knife. I now spray paint each of my shells. I, too, was concerned about flaring birds since I only shoot high brass. Of course, I only take 16 shells into the field, just in case I happen to miss one - so painting them doesn't take too long.

HS--what do you think about this inbred considering a 15 bird limit?

Purple is the proper color of the best shells.

I have friends who put on one of those high dollar hunts every year. Has lunch then shoot then out comes the high end liquor. Then the post hunt dinner. They have so many birds almost everyone kills a limit even if it's hotter than battery acid. The hunt master likes to say if your field is good and everyone chooses their shot wisely everyone will have a great hunt. He's also world famous for giving a visit to those who are not letting birds get in the field or taking questionable shots. I've been lucky for an invite and always act accordingly. There is always some people that don't get invited to the next hunts.

Being a bird hog is one of the quickest ways to get on the shit list of the hunt master. A true gentleman will let the birds commit to the field and shoot the back bird first. Hunters on the corners can make or break a good hunt if they don’t know how to play the game...

Don't really matter what the best dove shells are. If you are buying them right now, you have to get what you can get. I've never had trouble finding decent dove shells till this year.
Crops are harvested, animals are killed.
