Shot a MQ1 for 25 years or so. Just bought a Mathews Traverse this past fall. Just changes arrows about a month ago and went with the Goldtip Air strikes. Killed 2 bucks so far this year through the shoulders and got complete pass through son both. 9 weeks till Illinois

You mean string rifles. I shot that new $3500 ravin contraption the other day out to 100y. It’s unbelievable.

I’m not one to care how a man kills his pine goats. But they are going to have to draw the line somewhere. With a relaxed deer, nose down in a corn pile it is not unethical to shoot a deer at 80-100y with these new crossbows. They are quick enough to make that shooting distance a reality.

This gripe is for places that have an archery season.

NCDNR is discussing The first 2 weeks being drawn bow only, then allowing the crossbow to start up for the remainder of archery.

Id rather them get rid of the corn pile first.

I checked out the VXR today. Picked up a brochure and the Traverse and Tactic specs also looked good to me. Not sure which but I'm due a new bow but will probably buy after the season.

Tactic looks like a 2020 Switchback.

the guy I hunt with in KS and I were talking prior to me scheduling my shoulder surgery. I told him if I had to wait till after turkey season, I might be stuck using a crossbow.

    He hung up on me.

Not a fan of crossbows, but there is nothing relaxed about a South Carolina deer with his nose in a corn pile. Nothing. Relaxed eating acorns, grapes, Polk berries, salad mix, sure. Corn pile? No way

You just gotta aim at the hair line on the bottom.

The traverse will be 3 models old by the time you are looking to buy. Fantastic bow, just make sure it is priced accordingly. The tactic is their entry level model. Good bow, just “isn’t” what the flagships are. Isn’t as fast, isn’t as dead in the hand, isn’t as smooth, etc. Good bow for the price point - but I think a year or 2 old flagship is the better buy dollar for dollar. Mathews releases their new bows in November. I look for them to add a 33” ata with switchweight cams to the lineup and drop the traverse. It’ll be fun to see what they do to try to improve upon from the VXR. Other than Mathews using garbage strings, the VXR is pretty special.

    i hate ewe
my eye is already twitching and I hated to comment.

I still dont like the idea of arbitrarily aiming "low" on a deer. That doesnt feel right to my sensibilities.

Damn you for making me respond.
