Does anyone know the yardage rule on Murray? I'm going to hunt the lower end/Lexington end mostly. Is there really a "buffer" zone on the Ballentine side? Thanks in advance.

    From a previous thread

And on a serious note-yes you can and there are some ducks... unfortunately there are also a ton of places with ducks that you CAN'T legally hunt...
    from SC 50-11-27 subsection B and C

    (B) It is unlawful to hunt migratory waterfowl on that portion of Lake Murray lying within Newberry and Saluda Counties within two hundred yards of a dwelling or marina without written permission of the owner and occupant.

    (C) It is unlawful to hunt migratory waterfowl on that portion of Lake Murray lying within Lexington and Richland Counties within three hundred fifty yards of a dwelling or marina without written permission of the owner and occupant.

Because people who hunt Murray (regularly) spend a lot of time scouting the lake to find those areas that may give you an opportunity to kill a duck or two that is at a legal distance. Those people then wake up very early to get to, or camp there at those spots only to have someone come and set up on top of them right at shooting time to skybust at cormorants and ruin the hunt!

And that's just the start of it.

Hunting "close" to a house enables you to kill the dock birds...plus some homes are empty 90% of the year and there might be an island within 300 yards.
