How did the birds behave? I saw you mentioned running, did they all like to run on you or just a few troubled ones?

    Not all ran.

My dogs best point had him going with the wind (was about to change course). He wheeled around and locked down as hard as a dog can next to a small fir/Christmas tree. I was on the dogs side, my son was on the other side (no gun). I was about 15’ from the tree and my son was 10’ when he pointed. Dog didn’t budge an inch and the grouse got up about 5’-8’ from his nose from just under the tree on my son’s side, he might have been 10’ max from the flush, but I was on the wrong side and just caught a glimpse of him through the tree. His best point of his life, including tame quail.

Birds seemed to run, some short some long distances, in front of the dog when in contact more than less. They seemed to flush immediately if we walked up on them without the dog in contact. I’d hate to know how many were walked by and didn’t flush.

Thanks for the report, looks like a fantastic time.

I leave tomorrow, hate to hear the woodcock already left. How far north were you?

    Hopefully find a few grouse.

I was pretty far northwest. Less than 20 miles from Quebec.

Beautiful, we are a little south so hopefully find them if any are left down that way.

Sounds like you were close to my old stomping grounds as a kid. I grew up between Van Buren and Madawaska.

Damn right. I am just over a month from shooting some Maine black mallards. Would love that trip and heard good things about the turkeys

    Very cool Jacob.

    Doug, lesgo!
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
