    Default Winyah bait and tackle

They open? Think they got fiddlers?
A fish bites 2 times a day, right before I get to the water, and as soon as my boat gets back on the trailer.

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Man....I’m not trying to talk smack but the last time I bought fiddlers from there they were tiny as fuck! I’m talking bought like just hatched tiny. I love the location of the store and I hope it does well, but next time I go fishing down there I’m going to call and ask about the size of their bait. I want to do business with them but that was bad. It may be my fault for not calling and inquiring about the bait size. I will know for next time. I don’t like tiny herring, shad, minnows, or fiddlers. I’ll drive way out of the way to buy bait of my liking. Just how I am.

All sizes matter. Yeah I want to do business with them too. They are in a good location, and the last store didn’t make it down there, not sure why.

Called back and the lady answered. Said they just got some in that are from Florida. She said sizes are mixed got some big some small. I’ll let you know what they look like.

I've got a spot where I can catch monstrous fiddlers but the times I've tried them, they didn't do as well as medium to small ones.

Last store in that spot didn’t do well because he was trying to make it waaayyy more than a beer bait and bullshit store. That location is a perfect place to sell bait, ice, beer, snacks, and hot dogs for the plantation managers in the area. A short order grill in there would work too.

Maybe it’s a mental thing but i swear those big fiddlers get hit 10x faster than those bitty ones.

Since they are sold by volume and not quantity just put 2 or 3 on the hook if they are minis.

Thought this was a common sense solution to the problem.

I have spent most of my life in pursuit of sheepshead and I definitely agree that more fiddlers on the hook is better. However, I swear that when you stack them up the shank of the hook sometimes they bite the shank and won't get the business end of the hook in their mouth. Kind of a catch-22, but I am still in the camp of "more is better."

Maybe hook size has something to do with it too. I use the smallest hook I can get away with, usually a #1 or #2.

Small hook + jumbo magnum bait = good’en in the box. I save them big jumbo males for when I find the sweet spot!

Update: their fiddlers were as described had a few tiny ones mixed in but had a good bit of medium to large and even had some that I would call “jumbo” mixed in. Seemed like the medium ones caught sheepshead and the large to jumbo ones kept getting ate by toad fish.
