    Default Elk load?

For yall that have done it, 300wsm will be the gun, 165 accubond enough or would a heavier bullet be better suited? Discuss.

    Accubond will handle business.

that'll work fine. Personally i would (and have) use a 180 ab for elk, but the elk probably won't know the difference.

I'm really liking the 200 ELD-X in my .300wm but I don't shoot many elk with it, really none. But it'll flat out lay a big hog or any deer flat. That 165 AB is a tough one too.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Shot placement. Lots of em if possible. If an Elk is still standing, hammer it again and repeat.

The accubond should be just fine. Another one to look at would be the barnes TTSX or LRX. Worked up a load for a buddy's .300 WSM with the 168 TTSX and he killed a big bull with it, performed perfectly.

As nitro said, keep shooting that SOB till he’s dead, and DO NOT try to neck shoot one.

Phone man came to the club a week or several ago to test out his two elk guns. One being a 375 and the other a Ruger No. 1 in 3006.

With that number one, he was hitting target at 300 yes off hand. Nice.

Why not shoot 200+ grain bullets? That’s what the big magnum cartridges was designed for, slinging heavy pills further. The heavier the bullet the better down range energy. The drop in elevation is very small between the light vs the heavier bullets.

Shooting 165’s in a 300mag is like slapping in a race engine and then putting a governor on it.....

Working on this for a friend whos wife will be shooting said elk, loading the 165's the recoil is almost non existent in my 300wsm so that's what we were aiming for.
