First Gen Sequoia is a good one. I have have a 01 and it's hard to beat for the money. I am looking for a new to me daily, but the Sequoia makes me rethink paying money for anything new.

Look for a 97-06, 6 cyl, straight or auto. Some years had issue with head cracking and getting coolant in oil. Head is fixable. Only things I'd run from are electrical issues and rust. They can be found for 6.

88-95 are listed as YJ and only get a 6cly

66hp according to the innerwebs. Sounds like a screamer on the highway.

In searching around craigslist there are a few out there for 4-8k that are mid-90s models. I would just be patient and I think you can find something you'd like to have. Might have to drive to go get it, but they are around.

I’d like to to have a small frame vehicle where I have to go, that is the only thing holding me back from a suburban. Tell me about a samurai? What should I look for. Wife may drive it from greenwood to Anderson to work a time or two a week.
Doug, It's on my FB page. I just tagged you on it.
