Default Lake Russell/ Calhoun Falls SP?

Friends invited us to go camping next weekend and take the kids in their new camper. None of us have ever been there. They just got the camper and have been going to any place that is available since most places are already booked. Thinking about take the Jon boat and fishing/ exploring the lake. Any good spots on the lake for sightseeing. Probably just gonna try and catch a bream since kids are young and would rather swim. Any tips on that.

Nice campground. The pier has a greenlight. Good fishing around it. Stay in channel between markers, most coves/ creeks with standing timber are marked. Troll for spots with medium diving cranks. That'll keep the kids in the fish. We have good luck trolling around island in front the marina.

Stay vigilant anytime you leave the channel over there because there’s plenty of trees to hit. Just don’t get in a rich and you’ll be fine. Cell Service is spotty and that’s a favored path for heavy thunderstorms so be prepared. Also, have gps available since you’re not familiar with the lake because it’s just woods and water. Easy to not know where you’re at since it all looks the same.

Also, contrary to what Rubberhead would have you believe, that area of SC is far from flat so be vigilant for shoal markers as well because there’s some violent depth changes outside of the channels.

Stay mindful of your surroundings and find a nice sandy beach to come back to late in the afternoon to watch the sunset, there’s plenty of them around.

My favorite lake in the state. Troll some little crank baits or fish some channel markers with a spot remover.

Neat lake to be on a night, no lights to speak of. Stars seem to run into the water on a clear night

Great fishing but like others said be aware of channel markers and cell phone service very spotty to say the least

    Peaceful, you should enjoy
