    Default Arborist help....

While cleaning up debri left over from my brick mason, I noticed a pretty large opening at the base of this tree. I threw a couple pieces of leftover flagstone in the hole and they quickly disappeared. Hole seems to be 12” deep. Is there anything I can do to help the tree out?
Looks nice and green but to damn close to my cabin if it’s causing structural issues....Thoughts? 690E3C2B-14C0-4370-AE4B-DFCE5B19BFEB.jpg85F8441A-F24B-404F-88F0-B3C5740313F4.jpg

I would take it down if you are worried about it falling. They will all fall one day.

Is it a Tulip Popular tree? Can’t really tell from pic but looks like it. If so, every one I’ve ever seen had a hollow trunk.

Had to google it but yeah, it is a Tulip Poular! Last year when the drought hit over the summer, that tree dropped its leaves in August

Looks like it would miss the cabin and smash the 4 wheeler.

I have 8-9 in my yard. They are pretty trees but the start shedding leaves in July. They constantly drop dead limbs and are subject to snap in half in high winds.

If you are concerned, I'd take it down.

I’d take it down especially if it worried me. A plus would be no more twirly thingys in the gutters to clean out. FWIW, I got more oak firewood than I can burn because of black ants.
