    Default Did a little river diving the last 2 days

    I spent the last 2 days with some friends diving a local river in NC. Visibility was quite good but that meant the flow was way down and everything was covered by a thick layer of silt.

    Big teeth have become harder to find (we've been pretty efficient at finding them at this location). This tooth came at hour 5 of the 6 I spent underwater in the last 48.

    I need to modify my helmet so that I can get the frame lower in front of me.

    I am itching to get back to my favorite rivers in SC soon.

    My neighbor has gotten into Mega tooth diving lately. It’s amazing what he has brought home from the Cooper and the Out Banks, maybe Mega Ledge?

    A lot of teeth are coming from the "Meg Ledge"(s) off Southport/Wilmington area. A lot of divers have needed treatment at the hyperbaric unit at Duke because of it. Tooth fever is real and will get you if you aren't paying attention. You don't have a lot of time (no decompression) at 100fsw even on nitrox.

    Easy to rack up deco on a third dive. I went with jacked up 120s and was at 22 min deco after my third dive.

    How deep are you in the river? Viz looks pretty decent.

    @scdiver,

    Sorry, I didn't see your question earlier. The best depth for fossils in this river is ~15'. Normally there isn't any ambient light at depth, but the flow was so low that there was good light as long as a cloud didn't block the sun.

    Cleaned up a little. It has some enamel peel so I had to get the small gravel and sand from under the enamel before it dries out and popped off.

    No doubt. You’ll get hung out pretty quickly on those deep repetitive dives.

    It had been a long time between finding a nice tooth.

    I’ve never sold a tooth but I’ve given a bunch of them away.
