It had been a long time between finding a nice tooth.
I’ve never sold a tooth but I’ve given a bunch of them away.

I wonder how many of those I’ve drug a finger mullet across in my life

Awesome!
No way I could poke along on the bottom like that with little to no visibility around me! I would have a damn panic attack.
Can you post up a picture of your other finds or collection?

Great find right there!

That is an awesome find for sure.
Fascinating!
Have a buddy did the Cooper and Edisto both years ago. He had a great hole on the ocean end of Edisto, pulled some cool stuff out. He found some Civil War(The War of Northern Aggression) stuff out as well.

As promised:
These cases are part of my fossil show display.
As much as I like the big megs, I’m really drawn to a 3“ mako. That’s the top end of the scale for length.

The lighter colored meg top center is from the low country, the others are from NC.
Along the bottom row is a juvenile meg (called Hubble teeth after the guy who discovered them), Paratodus benedini and Great Whites and another benedini.

Thanks!
I was blessed to have had a great river diving mentor that started me down this path. I can still remember my first trip. Took me three attempts to settle my nerves and descend. Of course seeing the log moving up river against the current didn’t help!
There was also a 12’ gator that lived on the opposite bank. Leroy wasn’t bothered by divers and often sunned himself during our dives. I was warned to avoid the opposite bank as a precaution. It really raised the hairs on the back of my neck when he was in his spot at the start of my dive and wasn’t there at the end.
There was another time that I worked myself into a log jam. I worked over a log after checking the down-current wash out then realized I couldn’t move forward anymore. Naturally, I tried to back out and I couldn’t move. Up, right and left were also blocked. I sat there for a few minutes thinking about options. I had plenty of gas and was only 30’ deep. Ditching my gear was the last option but I knew I could get to the surface if I absolutely had to.
As I reviewed options I knew there was a way out because it was so easy to get in the middle of it all. I reached back to the tank boot and tucked it as close to my backside as possible. I felt the tank slide under the log behind me and I backed out of that mess. I think I went clear across the river before moving forward again!
That was ~30 years ago. I really need to get back!

Yup. Just talked me out of it.
Very nice tooth.

@scdiver,
Sorry, I didn't see your question earlier. The best depth for fossils in this river is ~15'. Normally there isn't any ambient light at depth, but the flow was so low that there was good light as long as a cloud didn't block the sun.

That’s awesome. I get a bit squirrelly in black water, how did you overcome that? It’s a bit freaky not to be able to see at all, or even 2’!

It takes a while but you just get used to it.
