    Default Slug gun help

If we’re going to have a dedicated slug bolt gun would it be 12 or 20 gauge

20 gauge, absolutely no need for a 12. I bought a Savage 220 for the shotgun season in IL and it's great. My oldest double lunged a 250# 10 point with it at 150 yards a couple years ago and it looked like you hit him in the side with a 2X4 when it hit him.......

What slugs are you shooting. I’ve been shooting the Remington green tipped ones. Can’t recall the name of them off the top of my head but they are accurate out of my 220. Wasn’t to impressed with the results on deer but they all have died.

Pop one with a .410 slug. They don't like it one bit.

Weve been shooting the Federal Premium Vital shocks. I think they're 275 grain

150 yards? Is that real life? What's the hold over for a shot like that?

I was always under the impression that a slug gun was 70 yards and in kinda deal, anything up to a 100 was pushing it.

Not much. Sighted it in a couple inches high at 100 and he could routinely stack em in a dip can size group at 200, so I was comfortable with him shooting out to that range with it. I'll try to find the video and send it to you

This is also consistent with my slug gun...won an 835 at a NRA banquet many years back that came with a 28" scatter barrel and a 22" rifled slug barrel, so i decided to make it a dedicated slug gun. Receiver was tapped for mounts, so it has a fixed 4x 32 scope.

For a year right before I got into my teens, my father made me shoot a single shot 20 on dog drives.. learning process. I killed several deer with it, haven't shot one since.
