I've got alternating 16 rows of corn and sunflowers in one 5 acre field and another 2.5 acres of sunflower only in a one back field and 2 acres corn only in an adjacent back field. The main dove field and back fields are separated by a 35 acre field I lease out to a real farmer. This year, he planted peanuts. Woohoo!

The deer started hitting the back field so I started putting out poconite around the boundary. It completely stopped them. They ate half of that field last year.

    Those fields look great.
Planted the second weekend in April. Mine peaked 2 weeks ago.

It might not be as bad as it looks. If the heads are already made, I'd leave them alone to dry right where they are. Even if the heads aren't 100% mature, the plants look like they'll stay alive laying over and finish ripening.

Dad checked our field last week. Flowers- at least what's left of them- looking good. Estimated 40% loss to deer depredation. The hot fences ain't keeping them out. At a loss here- second year in a row.
