Neither position is wrong, I suppose.
My first thought certainly wasn't to put any type of judgement on the victim but
more along the lines of anger towards the piece of trash that violated him.

I'm blessed that the Lord led me South to live and raise my family, even more so that all of our children have chosen SC as their home to start careers and raise their families..

I wasn’t judging nor blaming the victim he is a child and is completely innocent, and yes my first thought was anger about the asshole who did it. I did however have a second thought about why such a young child would be out so late. As I stated I’m not a parent so maybe it’s normal for 12 yo to be out that late, but at 12 my ass would have been in bed lights out at 10.

I think I read that he was part of some dance group that routinely does public performances on the street.

My Dad always told us nothing good happens after 1100PM. He was right.

Both my girls had a 1000PM curfew. They never got in any trouble that I was called to.

I bet your dad also told you, as mine did me, that there would be plenty of time for y'all to be "friends" when you got older.

We were pretty close. I set examples for my younger siblings on what not to do on a few instances. Overall, my Pops and I had a great relationship. Could be that my brothers never liked to hunt and my Dad and I love it. We had some fine adventures. I miss him dearly.

I also had a great relationship with my dad, and fortunately still do. He will be 89 in November, and I know how lucky I am to still have him. But he made it clear when I was growing up, that he was my dad first, and "friend" second. He taught me to be courteous and respectful to others, and to be kind to everyone. He taught me to open the door for others, and to say thank you, when someone did the same for me. He instilled manners in me, which is something that I see lacking in so many people today.

I did. Especially when he said that I would encounter many assholes throughout my life.
