I’m going to be needing two freshwater spinning reels to handle 8-17 lb line.
Without breaking my bank, what reels are recommended for casual use? I don’t expect to use these more than a few times a year, if that.
Thanks for any good suggestions.

What is “without breaking the bank”?
its woodie. i'm guessing 9.99 and it needs to be a good deal.
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
The litmus test for me on any reel is start-up drag. It shouldn't have any jerky, sticky initial movement.
When I was looking for my ultimate ultralight rig, I went from store to store feeling the drags on every spinning reel I could pick up. The Penn reels had the smoothest drag of any others. Fierce is their economy line of reels.
It comes in just over budget but sometimes you just have to treat yourself.

fwiw, I like shimanos, too. i have some sedonas that stay at the beach and they work just fine and are cheap.

Daiwa BG are my go to spinning reels.
At least I'm housebroken.
We are tied to Lew's so that's what we use period. We have several of the Mach 1 spinning reels and like them. Honestly the Lews Laser speed spinning reels are just as good in my opinion and cheaper. If I'm not mistaken, they are around 40 bucks.

I'm in same boat as you and have been looking hard at a Rexcraft 2500
Rexcraft "takes a dentin' and keeps on brrrrrrr brrrrrrrrr brreeeein'"
It would appear that the number of dipwads on this forum is growing leaps and bounds... with 2th as their Master. Congrats, boys!
For those of you mature enough to stay on topic, thanks. And for the most part I'm used to Diawa and Shimano spinning reels over the years, but they range from 2-10 lb reels, with a heavy Okuma bait caster for trolling Hartwell.
Since I haven't spent much time looking for reels in years I wasn't sure what my budget should be, but due to them being occasional use reels I'd like to stay in the $40-$80 range, assuming I can still get a decent reel for that today. If I need to go higher to get something good that I won't regret, so be it.
I've never heard of Lews reels, but then I don't spend much time anymore on the lake. What little time I've had has been spent with a fly rod.
2th, if you want to send me some $50 - $100 reels for $9.95, I'd be more than happy to cover the shipping cost. Thanks!
Sportin'... an apparent 'good' friend of yours tried to get me to sell him the Rexcraft. He said it was to help him remember the first night he spent in a tent with you on a Scout campout when you 'initiated each other'. I refused to feed his hunger...

Why you'd ever sell that beautiful bitch is beyond me anyway.
Daiwa BG 3000 for what you describe.
