    Default Teen in boat accident

Last weekend i got a call from a mutual friend that a friend of mine was in a boating accident. From what I understand they put in at 601 on river to go ride the swamp. I have not understood how this accident took place, what is being told was that his head hit a limb and he was a passenger in the boat. What is strange is there was a 911 call placed because he was taken in by ambulance. Had so much head trauma that they removed some of his skull but after a few days he didn’t make it. What I know is that there is no investigation and to my knowledge dnr does not even know. The child was 19. We buried him Saturday. Does DNR not get flagged when there is a 911 call on the water ?

    Sorry for your loss.
If the guy driving drove like Shelby I could see it.

I have seen cypress limbs catch on boats and swing back with the force of 5000 Barry Bonds steroid swings. Hell, I broke my nose on one that caught on a 4wheeler that I never saw coming and it wasn't much more than 1". The woods are scary dark and deep...

Sorry to hear about the loss.

Prayers for the young man and his loved ones. Tragic accident.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

So sorry to hear about this accident. That is way to early for them to lose their life in an accident that could have been easily avoided. My hunt club is directly across the Congaree from that landing. We also have the sandbar about a mile upriver on the left that is frequented by hundreds of people during the summer. From my understanding, there were at least 2 tragic accidents there last year. People leave us a mess every weekend to clean up. People also do not realize how dangerous the river can be especially when it is up and raging like it has been a lot lately.
I only hunt on days that end in "y"!

The law does require that any accident involving substantial financial damage or bodily injury be reported to SCDNR. I will find the law an post a link here. Sorry to hear about the young man, it can happen fast and you can be doing everything right. MG

The operator of every vessel involved in a boat- ing accident shall report to the SCDNR when- ever the accident results in loss of life, loss of consciousness, medical treatment or disability in excess of 24 hours, or property damage. For more information, call 843-953-9302.

Sorry for your loss. Far as I know, they only get notified when there’s a death at the location of the accident.

If they were running the swamp like the kids were yesterday, it can happen fast. The water is up and the limbs you are normally below are now head or chest high. I was idling around with rp in there yesterday, and had to duck under several, even on the main runs. Sorry to hear of the young senseless death that most likely was easily avoided.

DNR should have been notified. Any accident by a recreational boater that is “reported” gets investigated.
