I had a bad 16 Chevy. Local dealer hooked me up on the 18 after the 16 spent 60 days in service with low miles.

    This right here^^

I'd wait a few years on a new Duramax.

I've got an 06 and a 14. They are great.

I had an 03 that was lemon'd.... even then, it wasn't a terrible truck.

Lindy, I’ve got one and love it. It’s a Chevrolet. Only 10k miles so far, but no problems at all. I have not noticed any increased def use, but they did move the fill for the def to the fuel door do you don’t have to open the hood anymore. The step on the side for the toolbox is nice, too. I could do without the power tailgate, but didn’t have time to order one without that feature. The ride is better and the truck is quieter than previous years. Come check it out anytime.

This is duramax number 4 for me and I’ve never had any major problems other than injectors on my ‘03. I sold my 2012 to an employee and he did have problems with the def system, but I believe that was at over 250k miles.

I personally have not done anything but service the new L5P diesels. I’ve heard two horror stories, one being Salty, and the other another member on here from Newberry. Little shocked at GM’s customer service to both.

I can assure you, they all have their on problems. I’m not crazy about a 10 speed trans nor a 60k powertrain warranty, but that’s me.

I can’t believe the 13k lbs towing capacity on the ram crew cab,6.4 foot bed, 4x4 trucks. I just looked it up and you’re right. The Hemi, crew cab,4x4,6.4 foot bed is 16k lbs towing capacity. I’d never guessed that.

If you like the 2020 Chevrolet, get it. It’s your money, don’t worry on who judges someone on how they spend their money. I haven’t seen any issues on the L5P’s yet.

    Thanks guys!

Kirk - thanks for the offer. I can drive Kquinn’s and I’ve been in it several times. His is a Denali but not much difference in the general truck. Yours an LTZ or HC?

KRT - I’m not too worried about GM. Got some good connections at Pendarvis in that aspect. But you never know.....

And yea the Mega cab shocked me. Do I think it could handle more, yes, but that’s a huge gap.

As far as the 10 speed.....my thoughts in the beginning as well but hell everyone is going to it these days. I give it 3 more years and they are all 10 speed. At least it’s still an Allison

I’m not much on buying a first gen and if I was looking at a ‘19, probably wouldn’t ask the questions.....but I gain nothing as far as what I’m looking for between my ‘05 and a ‘19.

Richard sold me my ‘05 in ‘07

John has sold me 2 vehicles for my wife. This first of which was a used Cadillac that had major issues at 30k. They all got together and worked to get us out in what I felt was a more than fair deal

Very good people. I like the small town honesty.

Transmission is Allison on name only. It’s as much a Ford as it is a GM. They developed it in conjunction with each other. They aren’t the exact same but are close. GM pays Allison for the right to use their name. I will say that the one thing that doesn’t suck on them is the transmission. In fact if the hunk of shit caught fire, it’d probably be the only thing to survive.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Negative, not in 2020. The only way to get the Allison is a 4500 and it’s not a 10 speed. Come on you going do you’re research and call out Ram but not research the 10 speed?

“ That new Allison 10-speed isn’t actually made by the familiar Indianapolis-based engineering firm. It will be built in-house by General Motors and simply features Allison branding.”

“ The only way to get a true Allison-built transmission in your Silverado is to opt for the new Silverado 4500, 5500 and 6500 medium-duty trucks. These monsters will feature an Allison-designed and built six-speed automatic transmission. The new six-speed was developed in conjunction with GM and is designed specifically for use in the gargantuan medium duty Chevys.”

Seems like Allison even knows to stick with a 6 speed.

Keep your eye on the trans temp, they have a thermostat in them as well before they allow the fluid to travel to the trans cooler.

I have a 2020 GMC 2500 and it has been great for my 4500 miles so far. Salty has had the worst luck of anyone in America. I mean that and I hate it for him.

Go look on the forums. There are first generation issues but that engine is 4 years old and the transmission has been pretty good. They give you a 100k warranty with the diesel for a reason.

They are not having the issues Ford is with their 10 speed that’s for sure.

The 10 speed will be fine for most of you pavement princesses. The ones that can comment are the ones that keep 12k lbs behind it.

What issues is Ford having with the 10? My 250 has the 6spd but my brother bought a 150 with the 10. Hes got a Cummins for the heavy work but hes not taking it easy on the Ford either.

I’ll be damn.....I missed that. Well then.....

I knew about the thermostat. Hate that feature but can’t win everything.

In probably 20-25 people I’ve found or read have these trucks I’ve found three bad apples (2 on here). And the other 22 swear it’s the best truck they’ve ever owned.

They drive and ride great, I’ll say that for them. The engine is shit IMO but I realize my experience is different than most.

It’s too bad you can’t get a Ford with GM’s IFS and RAM’s Cummins. Then again my ‘17 F-250 had electrical gremlins they never could figure out.

Honestly I’ve been chasing a decent, reliable truck since I sold my 2000 F350 in ‘13. My ‘16 RAM was the best of the last 4.

Mine had used 3/4 of a tank of DEF when they returned it the last time, it had 1726 miles on it. LOL, I've put 4-500 on it, the rest is the dealer/service center.

So, I’m now confused....... I know the 10-speed is out there in the Chevy but I’m starting to find a ton of 6-speed Allisons in the 2020. Any idea what the cut off is?
