If theres no arrest then they shouldnt be siezing anything, charge the driver with carrying drug money (if thats even a against the law) or something but they basically stole that money if they cant prove it was drug related.

I just read every story I could find online and no arrests were made and no mention of what illegal contraband. The dog smelled something in his open air search.

I get it it’s prob drug money and the inspection infraction deserved a ticket but taking the cash without an arrest for any other crime is wrong. This asset forfeiture shit has to stop.

Or so the dog handler said. I'm suspicious about the laws that allow a cop to "read" his/her dog and determine the dog smells illegal contraband, especially considering they didn't find any here. Its an awful lot of "discretion" to let a cop bypass the search warrant procedure by supposedly having his dog partner tell him with subtle queues that it has smelled something illegal. I could teach my dog to sit when I give him a specific facial expression.

As the cop told my crew when stopped for a minor traffic infraction- everybody consents to a search or we let the dog tear the fuck out of your bosses truck. Mt. Pleasant has targeted construction trucks for the last 20 years.

They have no right to seize it, period.
Oh and that money is dirtier than two pigs fuckin.
Probably a Messican driving a new truck w a bed lid on it.....just guessing.
They should have an old white Granddaddy toting it in his 67 Ford F150

Truth is, they probably had a CI tip them off about it, not knowing if cash or kilos

    Default Cops or Robbers?

Yep. Randomly stopping a F150 over a 1" sticker with $900k is miracle status then 5 cops in the picture. Seems odd.

That seems like a ton of money but in reality that
is the proceeds of just 30 to 36 kilos of coke.
That was not a random expired tag stop.
They just covering their CI with that spin so they don't have to give him or her up

I did home inspections for 14 years and had an associate that trained a lab to sniff out termites. The dog was 99.999% accurate and could smell them where humans couldn't see them. The guy had to quit using the dog when an attorney insisted he have the dog testify and when he couldn't, they lost the case. Insurance companies slowly quit covering WDO sniffing dogs. Wonder if that defense could be used with a drug sniffing K-9?

Step #1 When they find the money, the driver denies any knowledge of it.......and that's exactly what they want him to say.

Step #2 Get him to sign their pre-printed statement that he had no knowledge of it.

Step #3. He goes free and the PO PO keeps the money.

Same old government over reach, probably drug money or illegal. However taking it without a crime or charge is really the violation-but rights violations don’t seem to matter these days.

Great points, they should train these mules on what to say if cash only discovered.

You can say whatever you want, you are NEVER leaving with that money.

agreed but you would at least give your lawyer something to work with
which is way better than saying, "I have never seen it and didn't know it was in my truck"
