I'm with palmetto bug. The dog could hike his leg up and piss on your tire and the officer could say that was a positive alert. Really your word against theirs

I don't know anything additional about this incident, but this is less than a mile from my house...Monroe PD and Union County SO have been busting people left and right on trafficking over the last two years. They are on the look out and are pretty aggressive about this as we are so close to Charlotte and right off of 485 and 85.

Not saying I agree with it but, Civil Forfeiture laws. Federal law that allows seizure of assets without arrest that is a loophole in state law that requires arrest. Either way, I am sure there is more to this story than what is being reported. Interestingly, in NC no seized proceeds are supposed to go to the department unlike many other states.
To get the cash back the person involved has to show its lawful origin. Even in cases where persons involved have showed origin, they don’t always get all of the money back and pay their own legal fees.

“… duckhunting stands alone as an outdoor discipline. It has a tang and spirit shared by no other sport—a philosophy compounded of sleet, the winnow of unseen wings, and the reeks of marsh mud and wet wool. No other sport has so many theories, legends, casehardened disciples and treasured memories.”
