    Default 5-8 HP outboard.

Have been watching several sites, including Craigslist, for less than 10HP motor to mount on my Gheenoe boat. Can't seem to locate one before it's sold. How about new? For the all knowing crowd, what brand and dealer location would y'all suggest? Would travel around 100 miles around Spartanburg for the best price. Thanks for the help..... fire away.

Thanks for your reply. Hope I have several opinions. Would like to know why someone recommends a certain brand, warranty. Weight is an issue. That's why I think 5-8 HP is all I can handle. Really don't want to go "new" but looks like I may be looking forever for used one.

What size gheenoe? I run a 6hp merc on my 13ft. I wish I had sprung for a 8hp tohatsu. One of these days I’ll pull the trigger on a 9.9hp 2 stroke

Is the tohatsu 9.9 the one you can remove the restrictor plate to make it a 15?

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but this guy is parting out a boat w/ 8hp merc, $1500.

I've got a 9.9 that I've run on my 15'4" Pushes it great but you can certainly go up to a 15 or 20. In my opinion if you went less than a 9.9 you would certainly be left wanting more speed.

Have you been watching Facebook Marketplace? I think more is being sold there now than Craigslist, but it is harder to get good deals it seems like. I have seen some smaller outboards on there.

How much would you be looking to spend on a 9.9?

    I had a 9.9 on a 13ft Riverhawk. It was fun.

Thanks for your offer. I've had 3 back surgeries and just too much weight for me.
