    Default Kayak

I've been tasked with finding my brother-in-law a kayak for father's day. He wants something sturdy, maybe large enough to add a small child for a short paddle. It will be mostly used at our lake house for short trips. I don't yak so I have no idea what to get. Any suggestions from the yakers in the group?

I wasn't given a budget. I am guessing 500-1000, but have no idea what a good kayak cost. Something nice but it doesn't have to be a top of the line kayak.

Some good recommendations here. Also look at Vibe Kayaks. Honestly for your needs, an Ascend from Cabelas may suit. Years ago, I bought two Emotion Anglers on sale from Cabelas and they have been great for us. Light, easy to paddle and transport, we take our kids out with us, and many fish caught on them.

He doesn't fish. He isn't a big guy like myself. I would say he is 5'10, 185 pounds. I appreciate all of the recommendations. I will look at all of them.
