Most people do not have the will or desire to hunt grouse in SC because they are that difficult to find in the first place, mostly due to demands of the terrain. That and the fact that there isn't an abundant number of them keeps them quite safe. I would just like to see the day where you wouldn't feel bad about harvesting one, but will settle for hearing a decent number of drummers in the spring time.

Y'all need to let me on to your land with my setter...if you have any quail or grouse I will tell you precisely where and how many. Deal?

I need to re-read Dr. B's book though...he was awesome,

Same, but I have a wirehair. He will also take care of anything we run across, coons. Possums, coyotes

For me, it's about getting my dog on wild birds and avoiding the pen-raised birds and pigeons. I don't have the budget or the time for all of that. Thanks Glenn. I will holler.

These are as wild as they come. One of the highlights of my turkey season was that with the lack of gobbling I could at least sit and listen to the quail.

i hear ya! And that's kinda my point. I wish we had them back.

I hunted grouse a number of times in MN when I lived there. It was fun. Lots of walking but pretty woods.

AND...to hear the "old timers" talk about it (they are their 60s now), BG was the best place to hunt quail within spitting distance of columbia. as soon as ten years ago, we had wild birds. today? we got not shit. not a single bird was harvested in that time period.

its sad bc it looks like quail should live there....but they dont any more.

We have several ( maybe even 4 ) wild quail coveys on our place in Bamberg. Love to listen to them .. we dare not raise a shotgun in their direction.

Ruffed Grouse?? Fun bird to hunt . My Dad and I did a great trip to Maine for grouse and woodcock before he got Parkinson's.. what I would give to have him back and spend a couple days watching him hammer them. He had skills.

Maybe you are managing your land for what "you" think they need, instead of what they really need.....
