Look at wires where they come out of cowling. Friend had issue on a 70. Got to looking and the insulation was worn off and exposed wire was grounding the thing out. Move the wire and it would crank. Exact same problem as you.

They don't call it "shaking wires" for nothing.

Relay is a pretty common problem on the Yamaha 4 stroke. I would get a test light out and start there after cleaning and tightening all connections.

Tried hitting it with a hammer?

Find your ignition wires off the key switch and give them power to see if it cranks. If it works every time new switch, if it is still intermittent look down the line.

I’m not sure what you mean by this.

Had a similar issue on a f225 a few years ago. All of my battery cables were shot, like rusty/crunchy but not visible at the connections, inside the tubing.

Get a diagram of the wiring for your key switch, locate the one for ignition and jump it directly (bypass the key switch). If it reliably starts every time the problem is in the switch. If the problem persists chase it back in increments ruling out each component as you go.

This is America, right? Throw it away and get a new one.
