Mine is getting my open sight 30-30 glenfield short mag.
I think teaching to hunt/shoot open sights is the way I want to go and he can’t hurt the gun. The caliber is also very utilitarian and manageable.

Absolutely! Thats how I was taught..that's how my children will learn. I had to prove proficiency with iron sights before I got a scope and had to consistently be able to be on the paper before I received more than one bullet.Originally Posted by SouthernWake

That’s the rifle mentioned in my earlier post.
That thing has killed many a deer including the one in his living room. He killed two within 5 minutes that day.
I finished them both off with my daisy.
