I have had Celeste and Marseilles (lemon fig). Celeste is an abundant producer of small sweet figs. The plant gets large with age. Marseilles is a more compact bush. And has a large fig. Considered Thomas Jefferson’s favorite. Both of these are considered typical southern figs in addition to Brown Turkey.
There are many many fig varieties. Some with LSU in the name are well known and considered some of the best (i.e. LSU Purple, LSU Gold). A SC nursery patented a variety named Little Miss Figgy that is a smaller shrub so it might be neat to have a S.C. cultivar. There is a strong fig follower community and the demand for certain cultivars can make them hard to get or very expensive. Check out Ourfigs.com if you are looking for info on more unique cultivars. A highly noted unique southern variety is Smith. Was fortunate to get this last year and looking forward to it producing in the future.
Do they require full sun?

Fruit and cake.
Whatever kind Glenn has...
The only think nastier than stepping on a fig while barefooted.....is stepping in fresh dog crap. We had them all over the yard growing up. I still hate them.

Whatever Lowe's had I bought. Guess I should have done more research.

Every fig bush I ever planted died. Yet, I know where one is growing in white sand in the secondary dunes that's loaded every year.
