    Default Smallmouth

Anyone fishing the Broad River for smallmouth? Looking for access points and info on areas to avoid due to hazards. Thanks for any info.

Have fished it around Gaffney. You can access it at Cherokee Ford recreation area and paddle up or down. Below there there is an access at Cherokee Falls dam. Above that there is access at hwy 18 bridge at Dravo Rd. All of these access are canoe or kayak only access, you could not get a big boat in. Don't expect anything fancy at these put-ins either.

I don't know about in the Broad here but up in TN on the French Broad and the Holston the best bait I've used is a Yamamoto baby bass grub in 3-4 inch. I prefer the 4 but sometimes they want a smaller bait. Throw it on a round ball head with just enough weight to keep it working... usually 1/4 up there is what I end up with if the current is stronger. I like the 1/8 better. I usually have at least 5 bags per trip. They are soft baits so you'll tear up a lot... and they are proud of them at the register. It helps to put just a touch of super glue on the hook and then slide it up. You'll get a lot more fish out of them before the tail rips off.

There are plenty. There was a guy here on another forum that posted exactly where to park,....which path to take. If I remember correctly, he waded across one river to fish another.

2th knows the place, I'd pm him.

I remember when they used to be more of secret. The DNR forums ruined that. The Mexicans probably hurt the population more than cyber scouters though.

The DNR forums were for hopeless nerds.
