Pocket screws are for novices, unskilled and women. Simple drawers can be made with rabbets and screws, glue or staples if utilitarian and plywood boxes. Solid wood you can do a simple box joint if you have a table saw. You can cut lap joints , tenons, rabbets, and a ton of other joints on a table saw. You can buy a mortise attachment for a drill press or use a drill bit and sharp chisel. Dowels and biscuits are good to reinforce joints.
A good router and bit set is your friend. Get 1/2” collet bits, 1/4” are worthless.
Do I own Kreg jigs, yep, I just rarely use them, the joints just aren’t that strong. In a pinch maybe a face frame.
Plywood can be had at some lumber yards. HD and Lowe’s carry some Sande and Baltic Birch as well as oak. A hardwood center will have the nicer multi ply types. A lot of that stuff is in MM or 32’d measurements.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.
You might take out a dozen before they drag you from your home and skull fuck you to death. Marsh Chicken 6/21/2013
