I've got some smartweed coming up along with some form of grass and I was wondering if there was something that I could use to control the grass that would not kill the smartweed.
Poast maybe?

"We have become so open minded that our brains have fallen out"
Why kill the grass if it is one that makes good seed?
You have smartweed already?
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
I am interested in the answer. I have a lot of natural smartweed coming up in a flooddable field and am thinking about cultivating it instead of planting.

Some form of grass or burr reed?
yes - grass and burr reed among other things
smartweed has several varieties and while all are eaten by ducks, they are far from equal.
Pennsylvania and Dotted are your primary beneficials.
In Clarendon County, I don’t see Pennsylvania bushing til at least late June.....flowering usually first of August in the fields.
Water is earlier.
In Charleston County, I see dotted response about the same time frame.
Pale smartweed is best mowed, to see what else comes up underneath it.
Way too much growing area for a minimal duck food and such a big plant.
Mow it and see what comes up underneath..... you may be surprised to watch barnyard explode after a mow.

Thanks - this field is in Colleton County. It has not gone to head yet. Are you able to venture a guess on the type from this photo? I think maybe it’s dotted with the red base?
