    Default Some Wyoming action...

After two hunts near my home in SE Wyoming that resulted in only two jakes seen and many miles of up and down hiking, I decided to check out a spot in NE Wyoming where my bud had been seeing a bunch of turkeys fully turkying. Having only one day to hunt there before getting my stuff together to head east for the next few weeks, I decided to bring an old turkey fan in case I had some locked up in the wide open Wyoming terrain that I could not pull off their hens...yes, I was prepared to "cheat" if I had to. Well, I got to the ranch and the birds were gobbling like mad right where I was told they would likely be when I stepped out of the truck at 0500. The set up seemed obvious, but turkeys have an uncanny ability to fly down and go away from me 99.9% of the time. Once fly down started...a scene not unlike a mass of mallards landing in the decoys 10 minutes before legal...it was obvious that there was no reason to even think about reaching for my Spring Allure copper pot and my mouth call got tucked into my cheek quickly. There was certainly not much skill involved in this hunt and kill, but it makes up for those days where they leave me exhausted, empty handed, and befuddled. Lots of vocalization here to listen to and some very cool spitting and drumming at super close range toward the end of the video. Hope you enjoy.

Nice work! I can't imagine how many biologists you have to have to be in such a flock! Good luck in your travels. Keep the pics coming.

I'd be sending a check to the biologists in that area.

Nice! Hoping to make my way over there in a couple weeks myself. Will be the first time seeing that part of the country and hunting something other than an Eastern

That was very cool. Thanks for sharing. I can't imagine having that many turkeys that close.
