I was invited to hunt on a plantation on the upper Cooper on saturday (12-17). Had the best hunt i have ever had in SC. I had my limit of BWT by 7:30 am, and i had my first federal band. it was on a drake BWT.

Where'd you hunt? We had plenty of ducks at North Chachan, next to Salt Point. Didn't hear much shooting elsewhere and didn't see very many duck boats. We saw lots of teal, lots of gadwall, lots of woodies, a few ringnecks and even a few mallards. We had a squadron of Canada's come through too but not near any occupied blinds.

we hunted Umbria ( I hope i spelled it correctly).

Umbria is bordered by Wadboo Creek. It is a very beautiful plantation. All of the other hunters shot BWT, GWT, Mallards, and some Woodies. I didnt see many big ducks, I did hear some geese but never saw them. I was so excited about the band and filling my bag limit (1st time ever) that i didnt pay much attention to what was flying by after that. I did stay in the blind for another 30 min. There were about 50 teal swimming in the decoys, it was beautiful.

That was the first time I had ever hunted flooded millet, the teal and woodies really liked it. I didnt really do much calling. I just did a few teal wistles and they were locked up.

Chachan is between Umbria and Salt Point. I've hunted there for a few years now and I've seen more variety this year than ever. The teal in particular have been way more prevalent. I don't remember seeing as many gadwall either. We usually subsist on ringnecks and woodies.

Joduck,
Congrats on a good hunt!

PB,
We're seeing more and more grays every year. I remember when you seldom saw a gray duck up here. Looks like they're trying to replace the mallards in SC.

Yeah I was hunting the river 12/17 I seen the geese you were talking about.

If yall don’t mind me asking, how does some one get a chance 2 hunt on one of those plantations off of the river? Do you have 2 be invited or be a member and how much 2 join or hunt. Were do I go or whom do I call?

I WAS INVITED. I WAS JUST IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME, WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE. I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE SO LUCKY. I HAVE THE WORST LUCK IN THE WORLD. I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE A CHANCE TO GET TO HUNT SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
