    Default The Spooky Spectre (Military Aviation Porn VSFW)

    This AC-130U Spooky is a visual representation of why you want to be one of our allies. Check out that howitzer just aft of the rear landing gear and all of the targeting bumps around the fuselage. I have never seen a picture of this aircraft this closeup before. So I can only assume it is declassified. This is the aircraft that produces those great IR videos of the bad guys turning into red mist. Oh well, sit back and enjoy some military aviation porn.     My son works on those. We got to go in and walk around, very tight quarters. Awesome as Hell.

    If you're ever down around Pensacola, go to the Naval Air Museum on base at NAS Pensacola. It's like third in size behind the air museum at the Smithsonian.

    That is the first I have ever seen of one.

    Looks to me that it would be a very tempting target for any anti aircraft platform.

    I am sure it serves it's role well though.

    It has extraordinary countermeasures and it actually waits for the opportunity for a radar to lock on so they can ferret the systems out for removal. I feel sure that like many USAF platforms it has active radar jamming and famously has metallic chaff and flares for passive avoidance. However, it does operate at low altitudes (reportedly it is unpressured)so that non-smart weapons could pose a threat but I sleep well thinking that the very smart engineers at Lockheed Martin have thought of that. This is the 800lb gorilla. MG

    That plane has more than adequate counter measures. Say in the link below "Defensive systems include a countermeasures dispensing system that releases chaff and flares to counter radar infrared-guided anti-aircraft missiles. Also infrared heat shields mounted underneath the engines disperse and hide engine heat sources from infrared-guided anti-aircraft missiles."
