My only problem with it is that it only comes in a 15” shaft.

Don't be hatin on a black motor!! The old ones were a little tough to start when it was cold out but other than that Mercury's are fine machines! Especially the new ones!! I've owned Johnsons, Evinrudes, Mercurys, and Yamahas. The last two are the only ones I would ever buy again. That being said the 70hp 2 stroke Hammer that I hung on my 16ft Hyperlift Xpress pissed me off something fierce. Never had a lick of trouble out of it but it was an absolute dog in the speed department. A 40hp 2 stroke Johnson was faster than it on the same hull!

You can make anything go fast but only of them is called a welfare motor. I want what Somali pirates run, getting home is way more important than speed to me

You say that and I totally understand where you're coming from. However, every panga we bust out here at sea has 2 to 3 Yamahas on them and generally at least one is busted! Even the "resupply" boats we bust carry extra motors to outfit the smugglers so that they can make the runs!

You can’t buy new 3 cylinder Yamahas in the US anymore.

I am just talking shit. I don’t mind the new Mercs but optipop and older ain’t worth a tinkers damn in my book.

RK I believe that. Those dudes have to be absolutely nuts to do the shit they do. I wonder how many perish in the middle of the ocean.

They say lightweight yet give no weight. One of the more important factors when picking an engine.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

    ive heard about 8k......

and the large gearcase and 2.33 gears are more suited to jumping on plane in a small flats boat within a boat length. not so good for a go fast john boat

That gearcase isn't built for speed, exact same gearcase as the earlier model Bigfoots, I guess if you are fishing flats and need to get on plane quick it'll be a plus.

Trust me I know. I run this Yamaha 60 with the big gear case and same ratio. Great motor, but not a speed demon by any means.
