    Default 6.2L gas or 6.7?

Thoughts? Good/bad? Looking at slightly used market(<30k miles). Will be a trailer/farm truck, no daily driving but a couple long trips a year through southern WV mountains. That alone justifies a diesel but I dont NEED it. Thought maybe after having the 6.7 for so many years maybe the kinks are worked out by the 19 models, but I dont follow along with new stuff, and I know nothing about the 6.2.

My opinion, if you aren’t driving it a lot, the diesel isn’t worth it. I’ve driven a diesel since ‘98, I’m seriously considering getting a new 7.3l once there’s more real world data on them. Gas is a lot cheaper than diesel, maintenance is cheaper and if you do have an issue it’s probably not going to cost you $3-4K or more to get fixed. You don’t need 900-1000lbft of torque to move a load.

We took my truck to Duke last week, round trip I got 16.2mpg. Diesel prices were $2.49-$2.99/gal, gas was $2.09-$2.29/gal. Factor in the premium cost on the engine, maintenance etc. and it takes a lot of miles if ever to break even. I love the power but practicality it just doesn’t make sense anymore.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I agree I dont need a diesel, but maintenance costs would be deferred as I wont be driving it often. I know nothing about the 6.2 though so am looking for opinions there. How will it handle 11k lbs over mountains?

A diesel that isn’t driven much will cost you more in the long run. They’re supposed to be worked regularly, sitting isn’t good for them.

    6.2L has been a good engine, with a 4.30 rear it’s rated for 14k I believe.

I have a 2013 F350 with the 6.2l engine and 4.30 gearing. It has 155,000 trouble free miles. It will pull 11,000 pounds through the mountains with no problems, except burning a lot of gasoline.

it will rub the numbers off of your gas card, but it works fine.

I tried to run some numbers on the break even point of paying the extra $10k on a diesel and paying about .40 more per gallon. By my calculation, it took nearly 6 years of regular pulling to make the cost justifiable. I did not factor in ANY maintenance or fuel additives on the diesel.

I wanted a 4.3 rear end but I did not have time to order one. The 3.73 rear end pulls my camper fine. I top out at around 9500 loaded and we go everywhere in NC, GA, TN. We even pulled it up Fancy Gap. If you can get up that and Saluda grade, you can do most anything.

I ran numbers a while back and came up somewhere around 300-330K for a break even using 13.5mpg on the gas and the 15.5 I average in my diesel. This was based on the delta of the diesel fuel and 87 octane on gas at the time, premium cost for todays diesel engines, DEF and oil change difference. That's a rough calculation and could fluctuate by a good bit but still comes up to a lot more years than I typically own a truck. This new 7.3L has my interest. I haven't had any serious issues with my 6.7L other than a blown O-ring on a fuel filter and fuel mileage of 15.5 average.

I’d be happier with mine if they’d get the SYNC system right and get the tailgate from spontaneously deploying when I’m backing up a trailer. I’m on my 3rd tailgate since I bought the truck. Wish they’d give you an option on all trims for a manual tailgate. The SYNC system will pull some crazy Ivan’s and just cut off, answer a call and not pick it up, change stations or go to a different band but, the part’s on order for 2 months now.

This in here is getting new injectors, EGR delete, head studs, new head lights, new grill, aftermarket bumper, seat covers, floor carpet out - rhino liner in, and then I might spray paint it all black. Hadn’t made my mind up about that.
