    Default Turkey Tags....

Went online and paid for my tags Wednesday. Got the new license yesterday showing the tags as being purchased but no tags.

Extremely efficient way of doing things as usual. Makes way more sense to mail 2 separate things rather than send everything in one mailer.....

I'll be the first to say it "TELECHECK" the wave of the future that's coming to a palmetto state near you.

Only a decade behind the rest of the country.

Seriously with the way society is today, having a paper copy of anything is almost unheard of. Pay online, view online, pull up a pic of license and screen shot it in your picture album if a hard copy is what you desire.

Who really wants to call the government every time they kill a deer or turkey?

Say it.....You know you’re anti-telecheck just because you kill WAY more squirrels than you’re supposed to.

Without a physical tag on the bird there will be no way to catch people killing over the limit. Telecheck is retarded. Ex: someone kills a bird on land without cell service. They get back to truck and no warden there....once in route home without being checked, "whelp, guess I won't be calling this one in!"

How do tags keep people from killing over the limit? Tags did make some sense when we were required to check in turkeys at a check station at least data was collected with each bird. When they did away with check stations they became completely worthless. No data and nobody knows if or when you use a tag.

You can never stop it 100% but at least with physical tags, a warden can write a ticket if it's not on the bird. Without tags and using telecheck, unless a warden sees you with a bird, people are not going to call them in. There's nothing for a warden to check in the field because the hunter is going to say their phone died, they left it at home, or they didn't have service. If you get checked in their field and the warden gets your info, you call it in. If there is no contact, free bird. Ridiculous!

I know in other states you have a set amount of time to check it online. Just like with tags if you get checked your license is then flagged. If you don’t check that animal in the specified time you will get a ticket in the mail.

    Tags, telecheck it doesn't matter....
More people will get caught over the limit from gloating on social media than any other means.

Telecheck requires a physical tag or kill card until called in.

Probably going to jinx myself, but I probably average running into the game warden 10 to 12 times per duck hunting season and 0 to 0 times during turkey season. Always hunting public land. Mornings, afternoons, doesn't matter. As far as I can tell, the SCDNR GW's doesn't even check people for turkey tags.... they only bust people for baiting. Just my observations from the past 5 years or so.

I've been checked 1 time turkey hunting. Opening morning of public 3 years ago. He made sure I used a tag.

    Fact!
IMO bringing back a way of checking in game would help the people in charge with more data to try and set seasons for the benefit of the resource. More data has never been a bad thing.

Outlaws are not going to tag or telecheck. You can never fix that problem. I know plenty of people that seem to have Velcro tags.
I live in SC and have hunted SC my entire life. I live near the NC border and have been deer and turkey hunting both states for the last 4 years.
Telecheck gives NC biologist so much more info and data. In 2 minutes they know when(date) the turkey was harvested, where (what county) ,with what type of weapon, and whether or not it was a jake or mature gobbler. Same goes for deer in NC.
In SC our biologist get a few random surveys.
IN NC you can call it in or use their website.
NC is at least getting useful data.
