    Default Obedience training

    columbia area
    pointing dog

neat family with 57 kids (all girls) got them a really well bred pointer and its hell on wheels. it gets daily walks from all the kids but they still need to work on obedience with a trainer to help them out.

Does anyone know someone locally that does this? It does not have to be specifically for a pointer...just regular obedience they can all work on.

    TIA

Pro tip: give the pointer to someone like me who will put it on birds and get the girls a lab. A pointer in a house in city limits that can’t stretch its legs (run wide open, not walked on leash) will continue to be hell on wheels.

I do know a guy in NC who trains pointers and worked with mine. However, that would be a couple month commitment and I’m not sure if he just does obedience. He is a good guy and would talk to you or them regardless. Text me if you want his number.

Yeah. That's a tough ask for an animal who was bred to be hell on wheels to obey in the city. Maybe find a willing neighbor who runs or bikes to take the dog along. I did that for my neighbor who owned a short hair . I was in high school running all the time for baseball.

Alan and Shannon Wooten in Boykin are great.

Are your friends looking for an obedience class or somewhere to send pup for training?

I ride my bike daily (3-5 mi) with my GWP to let her burn some energy.

What type of pointer? They leave it in a crate when not at home or give it the full run of the house? I take my French pointer on an off leash run everyday for 30 min to an hour. If I didn’t he would be hell.

I’d second the Wootens for obedience as well. They have a really great approach.
