Was the fawn healthy? Any underlying conditions that may have caused death in the absence of a predator?

Dunno, but the coyote doesn’t look malnourished.

    Another good read...

I can choose to be scholarly and scientific or I can accept the fact that animals that kill animals I want to kill piss me the fuck off and deserve to die.

That is one DEEP statement as we are animals and I get it.

Neither does the fawn. It’s a great read. I’m surprised that an area stated as having more than adequate nutrition lists emaciation as a leading cause of death. I didn’t see any specifics as to the cause of the emaciation.

The starvation could be due to the momma too often getting interrupted during nursing time. A fawn with a particularly spooky momma doe might not get a lot of chance to suckle.

If you watch deer feed, I'm surprised more deer don't starve. Even standing in a corn pile, they take one small bite then yank their head up and stare for ten minutes, stomp their foot a couple times, then run off, then come back and repeat.

This is one of a number of articles I’ve read that testifies to the age class of a doe as being a more successful mother.

I personally like coyotes. If I shoot one it’s because I want to, not because I’m trying to save my deer. I see plenty of deer and my hunting has actually improved since coyotes took up residence here.

Indiscriminate killing. There are no coyotes with 55 gallon drum of yearling buck antlers.
