    Default Browning Rifle Stock

Like I said in a thread last week.. I bought an Abolt, new to me, and it’s the first Browning rifle I’ve owned. I was cleaning it last night and kept hearing whah appeared to be sand in the stock. I took the butt pad off and this was what was in it. Is this normal? What is it? Looks like lead to me but there isn’t enough, imo, to cut down any recoil.

What I thought. The butt pad doesn’t look like it had ever been taken off.. at least it didn’t look like what it did after I took it off.

It's normal, I have no clue what it's for but it's in my factory Abolt stock.

    It’s a Browning A Bolt, that’s self destruct dust.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Are A-bolts known for failing? I always thought they were reliable and smooth. Except for the AB3. The action on those is terrible.

It’s a personal thing, I’ve had one that was what I considered accurate out of about 5. It was a beautiful Medallion in .280, sold it though.

Mine has something in the stock as well that sounds like sand. I assumed the previous owner put sand or shot in it to make it a little heavier for whatever reason. I never tried to see what it actually was.

I have an original A-bolt (first ones made) and never seen that in the stock.

By the way, if someone needs a synthetic A-bolt stock I have one I'll give them. It does have some dings on it, but if functionally sound.
